Three-Universities Joint Seminar for 113-2 Semester
Fostering Cross-University Exchange through Student-Led Global Health Discussions
On May 2nd, 2025, the Three-Universities Joint Seminar for the 113-2 semester was successfully held at the Cheng-Pu Conference Hall, 4th Floor, Front Building, Taipei Medical University (Xinyi Campus). This event brought together students and faculty members from Taipei Medical University (TMU), National Taiwan University (NTU), and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) for an engaging afternoon of academic exchange.
Organized by TMU faculty members, the seminar featured a student-led small group discussion format, with eight thematic groups formed in advance based on discussion topics proposed by TMU students. Each group consisted of approximately 8–9 students. Upon arrival, NTU and NYCU students selected discussion groups based on their interests.
Each group was given around 50 minutes to explore their selected topic, followed by a 5-minute summary presentation by a designated group leader. The discussion topics reflected timely and diverse global health challenges, including:
-
Artificial Intelligence: Using AI for Analysis and Interpretation of Health Data
-
Health Communication: Combating Misinformation – Evaluating the Effectiveness of Digital Health Campaigns / Measles Awareness
-
Health Policy: Global Health at Risk – How Trump's Policy in Foreign Aid Cuts Affected Developing Countries
-
Infectious Disease: Antimicrobial Resistance from a One Health Perspective
-
Maternal Health: Global and Regional Causes of Maternal Mortality
-
Mental Health: Mental Health and Climate Change – Understanding the Psychological Impacts of a Changing Planet
-
Non-Communicable Diseases I: Migraine – A Growing Concern for Young People Worldwide
-
Non-Communicable Diseases II: Youth and NCDs – Addressing the Rising Risk Factors in Sub-Saharan Africa
The student presentations were remarkably vivid and informative, supported by a variety of well-prepared charts, models, and visual aids. Among the many excellent performances, TMU student Nick stood out with his clear articulation and engaging delivery, commanding the full attention of the audience throughout his group’s presentation.
Adding an element of fun and interactivity, one group even incorporated a Kahoot! quiz game, which was enthusiastically received by participants. Much to everyone's amusement, Professor Raymond N. Kuo from NTU emerged as the high scorer — proving once again that wisdom comes with experience!
This seminar provided much more than an academic exercise. It offered students a valuable platform for interdisciplinary learning, peer exchange, and cross-institutional networking. Participants left the event not only with deeper insights into global health issues but also with a stronger sense of connection and collaboration among future public health leaders across the three universities.
